November 2014 according to my iphone

Wow!  November went by in a flash.
We celebrated McKinley's 14th birthday.

It was Jensen's bday this month too so we sent her a care package of birthday goodies.
I rarely post pictures of our college girl, because she rarely sends them.  But I stole this off of facebook from a picture she was tagged in.  Apparently they went out for a night on the town to celebrate Jensen's bday.  I was happy to see her wearing the leather jacket we sent her in her birthday box.

Along with becoming 14, McKinley now gets to attend our church's dances for youth.  We invited any of the boys and girls from our church congregation ages 14-15 to go out to eat before the dance.  I think they had fun.  Here is the cutest group of 14 and 15 year old that I know.
Get ready for Elder Argyle overload.  (sorry, not sorry!)  I hit the jackpot and got lots of pictures this month.  Here is my happy boy as he enjoys a good home cooked meal from on of the members of the ward he is currently assigned to.
Here is his district at the last transfer day.
The field is white, ready to harvest ...
 literally and figuratively
I took these two cute boys one day to see Big Hero 6 and for a fun lunch at Firehouse subs.
Poor McKinley got braces.  :O(  Isn't that an awesome picture of her?

Also had a girl's movie night with 2 of my 3 daughters.  We saw The Theory of Everything.  The acting was remarkable.  I think I see an Oscar in Eddie Redmayne's future.
The cute car full of kids I carpool to and from school.

Brent and I spent atleast one night each weekend watching some cute 9 yeear olds play basketball.  Here are two of them enjoying a pre-game meal.
We ended the month with a wonderful day of Thanksgiving with good food and loved ones.
This picture basically sums up the month.

Chicken Pot Pie

Confession time.  I am not a great cook.  I guess I can follow a recipe.  I just don't  LOVE cooking like so many of you.  I do it because it is part of my job description.
There is  ONE thing I cook, however, that my family loves.  I owe this glorious recipe to my friend Kelli Moon, who served it at book club (probably 15 years ago).  She shared the recipe and I have been making it part of my repertoire ever since.  It is Brady's absolute favorite.  I could probably get him to clean the attic and garage with a promise that I was going to make it.

Here is the Cast of Characters (ode to Pioneer Woman)
-pictured is ingredients for TWO pot pies but ingredients listed are for ONE.  Although. I never make one because it is a great comfort food to take to someone who needs a meal.

A Pillsbury Pie Crust
10 oz bag of Frozen vegetables
1/3 C. Flour
1/3 C. butter
1 C. frozen onion
1/2 tsp. salt
1.2 tsp pepper
1 3/4 C. water
Can of chicken broth
2/3 C. milk
1 Rotisserie Chicken

Cut up 1 rottiserie chicken like so.  I like to use the Costco chickens because they are bigger and have more chicken on them than most others I have tried.  I can usually get TWO pot pies out of one of their chickens.

Okay, next:
Heat the butter and onions in a LARGE pot on medium heat.  Stir frequently so that it will not burn.
Once the onions are slightly cooked in the butter, add the flour, salt, pepper, water, milk, and chicken broth.  Once it is blended well, bring it to a boil for one minute.
Then turn heat back down to medium and keep stirring until the filling thickens up a bit.
Add your veggies.
(I subbed 1 10 oz bag of mixed veggies for a bag of peas and carrots and a bag of frozen corn because I was making this comfort meal for my sister who is the pickiest eater I know and she doesn't like green beans.)
Admittedly, it was so good that I might end up doing that combo every time.

It will look like this.

Now start putting your pie crust in the pie pan.

Pour the yummy filling in the pie crust.

Put a second pie crust over the top and join the outer edges with the first crust with your fingers and then flute the edges by pinching the crust.

Make 4 small cuts from the center out N, S, E, and W to the top crust.  Bake in a 425 oven for 35 minutes.  It might be necessary to cover the outermost part of your pie crust with foil the last 15 minutes that it bakes to keep it from getting too brown.  I like to use the "Pie saver" covers (pictures above).
IMPORTANT:  Let the pie cool for about an hour before you eat it.  That filling is HOT.

October 2014 according to my iphone

It was one of my favorite times of year!  General Conference!  I made conference packets for my primary class and got these cute conference journals for the ladies I visit and the families that Brent home teaches in preparation for General Conference.
McKinley and her friend, Caty, made the middle school web page with Dr. Watkins, our Superintendent.
Here is a picture of our special Halloween care package we sent Tanner.  He said he has gained 10 lbs!
Went to a haunted house with some fun couples.  Here is a picture of the ladies.
 Tanner had his first baptism.
PTO put on our first big event of the year, the homecoming tailgate for all 1049 kids.
Cheer, cheer, and more cheer filled up many squares on our family calendar,
And the other remaining squares on the calendar were filled up by these cute basketball players that Brent coaches.
So grateful for these sweet ladies that help me serve athletic meals each and every week to 200 hungy football players, eagle darlings, cheerleaders, and volleyball players.
Brutus decided to get in on the Halloween fun.
A little view of the care package we sent Jensen for her bday at the beginning of November.
Lotsa meetings and action items have kept me busy with PLA.  We have been getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas for those who have needs on our community.  I am learning alot and enjoying working with great women of other faiths as we join hands to serve others.
